Shot in Bali, Indonesia, this video documents the ‘Karya Alit’ ceremony in the Samuantiga Temple in the village, Blahbatu, on the outskirts of Ubud. Pigs are
sacrificed as offerings to Lord Shiva. After slaughtering, the pig meat is then used to decorate this ornate chariot-like sculpture which is placed in the temple for the next fortnight. The use of pig meat is very similar to the use of flowers in the chariot festival in Bangalore. This practice is intimately linked to the death rituals practiced in Bali.
